Anti-Ragging Committee

Statutory Compliance

Anti-Ragging Committee – Presidency Law College

Presidency Law College has constituted an Anti-Ragging Committee to prevent ragging and ensure a safe, secure, disciplined, and student-friendly academic environment for all students. The Committee functions in accordance with the guidelines and regulations prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the State Government, and the affiliating University. The Principal, management representatives, faculty members, student representatives, non-teaching staff, a parent representative, an NGO/social worker representative, and a local police representative form part of the Committee to support the effective implementation of anti-ragging measures.

Primary Objectives & Functions

The primary objective of the Anti-Ragging Committee is to prevent all forms of ragging within the college campus and in activities connected with the institution. The Committee plans, implements, and monitors preventive measures to protect students from harassment, intimidation, bullying, humiliation, and other forms of prohibited conduct. It promotes a culture of mutual respect, equality, discipline, and cooperation among students and encourages newly admitted students to participate in academic and extracurricular activities without fear or pressure.

Awareness Programmes & Campus Safety

The Committee organizes anti-ragging awareness programmes, student orientation sessions, seminars, workshops, and counselling activities to educate students about the harmful consequences of ragging and the disciplinary action that may be taken against persons found responsible. It also ensures that anti-ragging notices, helpline numbers, and complaint procedures are displayed prominently on the college campus so that students are aware of their rights and the appropriate channels for reporting incidents.

To strengthen campus safety, the Committee coordinates with the Anti-Ragging Squad, faculty members, student representatives, management, parents, and local authorities wherever necessary. It monitors sensitive areas of the campus, including classrooms, corridors, the library, the canteen, and other common areas, through regular and surprise inspections. The Committee also reviews the submission of anti-ragging affidavits and undertakings by students and parents at the time of admission and maintains the prescribed records in accordance with applicable guidelines.

Complaint Redressal & Continuous Monitoring

The Anti-Ragging Committee receives, examines, and inquires into complaints relating to ragging and recommends appropriate disciplinary action against those found guilty, in accordance with applicable rules and regulations. Every complaint is to be addressed promptly, fairly, and confidentially. The Committee also reviews the grievance redressal mechanism and recommends measures to strengthen student counselling, mentoring, campus discipline, safety, and security. Students are encouraged to report incidents of ragging without fear and to cooperate with the Committee during the inquiry process.

The Committee conducts periodic meetings to review the implementation of anti-ragging measures, assess campus safety arrangements, plan awareness activities, and evaluate the effectiveness of preventive measures. It maintains meeting minutes, records of activities, and reports relating to anti-ragging compliance and submits them to the Management, University, or other competent authorities as required. Through continuous monitoring, awareness, counselling, and appropriate action, Presidency Law College is committed to preventing ragging and fostering a respectful, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for every student.
